Peel District School Board set to strike on Tuesday December 18, 2012

Updated 15/12/12
STRIKE ACTION CONFIRMED FOR TUESDAY DECEMBER 18, 2012.

While they have not yet received official notice from ETFO, PDSB are preparing for strike to take place on Tuesday, Dec. 18. The letter going on home today (14/12/12) reads:

IMPORTANT NOTICE FOR FAMILIES:
Elementary schools closed on Dec. 18 due to one-day strike by Peel elementary teachers
Elementary teachers with the Peel District School Board have been informed by their union that a one-day strike will take place on Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2012. While the Peel board has not yet received official notice, the board is preparing for the strike to take place on this day.
Since we cannot ensure the safety of students on this day, all Peel board elementary schools (Kindergarten to Grade 8) will be closed to students on Dec. 18. Please do not send your child to school.
On this day:
 Buses are cancelled. This means there will be no bus service for students.
 Before-school/after-school and extended day programs offered by third-party providers are cancelled.
 Hubs and Readiness Centres, and Parenting & Family Literacy Centres will be closed to students and families.
 Teachers may be picketing outside the school.
Elementary schools will re-open the next day—on Dec. 19. Secondary schools are not affected and will be open on Dec. 18.
We will continue to send information home and post labour updates on the Peel board’s website at http://www.peelschools.org/aboutus/labour as new information becomes available.

As always, we appreciate your patience and understanding.
Janet McDougald
